Maritime motorsports shrine adds new members

Motocross builder and competitor Earl Doucette of Salisbury, antique builder and collector Paul Forgrave of Moncton, former Scoudouc Dragway racers Fred and George Estabrooks and New Brunswick motorcycle enthusiast John Johnson will be inducted into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame Nov. 5 at Ramada Plaza Crystal Palace Hotel in Dieppe.

Doucette started motocross racing in 1975 and was one of the founders of River Glade Motocross Track in 1977. He became an official tech inspector in 1982 and became an Atlantic region race official one year later. Doucette has never missed a motocross race at River Glade.

Forgrave has been interested in cars his entire life. He is a member of the New Brunswick Antique Auto Club, Moncton Speed & Custom Club and Canadian Service Station Memorabilia Association. He was a founding member of the Performance Ford Club of Canada and is a lifetime member of the Maritime Motorsports Hall Of Fame.

Fred and George Estabrooks were regular fixtures on the local drag racing circuit. Their 55 Pontiac set the B/MP and C/MP records at Maitland Raceway and won the points series championship at Scoudouc Dragway.

Johnson, a motorcyle promoter, racer and builder, is an icon of the Maritime motorcycling fraternity. He started promoting motorcycle racing in the early 1960s. Through his dedication over the years to the sport made him an example and an inspiration to others.

The Class of 2011 also includes stock car driver Robert (Bobby) Allen, motocross racer Heidi Cooke, stock car driver and builder Edward (Junior) Hanley, all of Nova Scotia, and snowmobile driver Albert Gallant, stock car driver Earl Ross and the P.E.I. Street Rod Association, all of P.E.I.

The sixth annual induction ceremony begins at 5 p.m. with a reception, then a dinner at 6 p.m.
